Where to Stay in Bastrop:

Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort – Hands down one of our favorite resorts in Texas. I actually have a previous couple of posts about it. I took nearly 500 photos of the resort this year but don’t worry I won’t share all of them. From a resort pool with slide and lazy river to horse-back riding, clay shooting, award-winning golf, kids activities to no end, s’mores…. you seriously cannot beat this hotel. It’s SO family-friend but also perfect for romantic getaways too. The spa is simply perfect for peace and quiet. During the Holidays they have Santa visiting, Christmas animal parades, reading with Mrs. Claus, ornaments, tree fin and so much more. During the regular parts of the year just subrat Santa and you still get all the fun.

Where to Eat and Drink in Bastrop:

We have been going to Bastrop for close to 10 years now – both for weekend or passing through day stops. We’ve eaten at the same spot for a few years now so I’ll mention this one first and then the new ones we found and LOVED!

First up: Maxine’s.
Southern food, PIE, cake and all things good in the world. That’s all I have to say.

New favorite: Neighbors.
Pleasantly surprised with this spot. We sat outside and it’s a HUGE restaurant to run around for kids. Right on the river, too. Gorgeous views of the bridge and Bastrop’s scenery. The food (known for their pizza) did not disappoint. Even the crafted cocktails were delicious!

Good for everyone: Gracie’s.
Southern food, steaks and seafood plus all the things kids like, too. Good cocktail list and a perfect spot off Main Street to get the small town vibes.

Top Rated BBQ: Southside Meat & BBQ.
If you have a craving for good Texas BBQ, this is it. Good with or without the sauce. (And that’s how this Texan determines how good it is!)

What to do in Bastrop:

Holiday Edition first and then to the year-round stuff!

Lights by the River – A cute, little walking tour of lights on the Colorado River. Perfect for littles.

Holiday Shopping in Downtown Bastrop – Small business and small town vibes with gifts for everyone. Plus with wineries and distilleries in town you can drink AND shop!

Tree Lightings at Lost Pines and Downtown Bastrop – gorgeous trees at both locations. Picture perfect!

Year-Round Fun in Bastrop:

McKinney Roughs Nature Park – Destination for nature lovers, with a science center & trails for walking & horseback riding. ESPECIALLY gorgeous when the leaves are changing colors. We got there at the tail end of fall and it was STUNNING. Perfect spot for family photos.

Activities at Hyatt Lost Pines – year round activities from golf and clay-shooting to horseback riding, and you don’t have to be a guest to sign up!

Dinosaur Park – My friends RAVE about this little park. Great from littles and slightly older kids.

Bastrop State Park – Home to the famous “lost Pines” trees. Another great spot for hikes with the whole family.

Downtown Bastrop – Perfect year round for shopping, eating, playing and drinking. The Bastrop Museum and Visitors Center is right on Main St alongside distilleries, boutiques and restaurants.
