Sweet Tea and a Blast from the Past

On most vacations you a bound to eat and overpriced, no-that-great, semi-okay restaurants. Am I right? You’ll find a few that suit your fancy and sometimes even go back once or twice. It’s hard to find decent service and good food in an environment your visiting.

Mammoth Cave has a rich history in the United States and its hotel and restaurants will take you right back to the boom of the National Park age. In the mid 40’s and 50’s you can picture a father sitting at the diner drinking a cup of coffee as his family prepares for the adventure of a brand new park. Come back to 2013 now, and you can still have that same feeling in Mammoth Cave’s Crystal Lake Coffee shop.

You might have to wait a few minutes but the second you sit down at one of those “brand new in the 1950’s” chairs and take a sip of sweet tea, you are back in the era of new automobiles and brand new, national parks. My favorite part about the coffee shop is the wrap around bar and cherry red barstools. No alcohol served at this bar – only soda pop, sweet tea and coffee. The way it should be!

Are you wanting a nicer meal for dinner? Grab a seat at the Travertine restaurant. Would you like fresh blackberry preserves and hot biscuits while you wait? Hello! Yes, please!! Nothing beats Southern Hospitality at a national park and a hotel that’s been booming since 1816.
