Hi Lovely visits Mammoth Cave National Park

Mammoth Cave National Park – Oh, what a sight it is!

I hope everyone has the experience of driving through one of our national parks one day. It’s a phenomenal site to see. We lucked out by going to the four parks that have had ample rain this year but I can image other parks have just the same feeling.

The drive into the park itself was gorgeous but I think I mentioned that in another post. Rolling green hills, plantations and cozy little homes placed perfectly on top, tobacco farms and corn growing just as far as the eye can see. Absolutely stunning.

Anyways, back to the park. Mammoth Cave is the largest cave in the world. Over 400 miles found and continuously counting more. Crazy, right?! We didn’t expect to see the amount of people there but we still had a good time people watching and cave exploring. The park ranger warned us that they usually sell out quickly with the longer explorations but we didn’t think much of it. Sure enough, we had to wait a couple hours to get on a ride, but that gave us the time to look around a bit.

The grounds are very well maintained, and the park rangers were so nice through out the four parks we’ve been to this month (even when Chris would ask goofy questions…). The caves are definitely for people with a little endurance and not for the really out-of-shape guest. We walked down over 500 tiny-steel steps to get the start of the tour. Brisk, chilly, slippery 500 steps but gorgeous rock formations and domes around every step you took. In the end, they are totally worth it.

We tried to take a lot of pictures but the iPhone was not quite suited for the dark and moist atmosphere the cave had to offer. You can see my pictures are a little blurry and not so in focus. Sorry about that. The video at the bottom is the bus ride and informational history of the cave. That park ranger is passionate about what he does and that’s what I love to see!

If you are in the Western Kentucky area – you CANNOT pass up Mammoth Cave. It’s perfect on a hot, summer day seeing its 50 degrees year round. The kids around us were in awe of it and the parents were enjoying it just as much.
